Even though many people consider that Kirinda is the place where Viharamaha Devi landed, according to Historical facts, it is believed to be Muhudu Maha Viharaya in Pottuvil. Actually this temple has around 2000 years of history.

This used to be a large complex, currently restricted to a small area due to land acquisition by the villages. Same time some of the historical artifacts were buried under the sand dunes.

If you are driving towards the Arugambay, you can see the small name board towards to your left. The road towards the Muhudu Maha Viharaya is very narrow and difficult even two cars to pass in by at a time.
