Sampath Bank
Sampath Bank (Sampath Bank PLC) is a licensed Commercial Bank incorporated in Sri Lanka. founded in 1986 with 223 branches and 348 ATMs island wide. It has become the third largest private sector bank in Sri Lanka
The bank was originally incorporated as “Investment and Credit Bank Limited” in 1987 whilst Mr. N U Jayawardhana became the Chairman of the bank. The bank became popularly known as “Sampath”. In 1988, Sampath Bank start to operate multi-point network of automated teller machines (ATMs) for the first time in the country, and the service became popular as “Sampath Electronic Teller” or “SET”. Then, with the popularity of ATM banking introduced MasterCard (in 1989), PBU (Personal Banking Unit) and Uni-Banking System. The bank was the first to introduced “Debit Card” in South Asia in 1997 and was the first in Sri Lanka to issue a debit card instantly at the time of opening an account.

Sampath Bank opened its branch office in Jaffna on August 24. The first banking house to enter the Peninsula since the conclusion of the war, the Sampath Bank branch is conveniently located in the hub of the Jaffna town, where, with the exception of the three most senior staff who possess comprehensive regional experience, the bank is exclusively staffed by qualified local residents, and offer customers a varied and comprehensive banking service.
Products and financial services include Savings Accounts, Business and Personal Current Accounts, Fixed Deposits with higher interest rates, foreign currency accounts, Personal and Housing loans and Leasing facilities. The bank will also offer special gift schemes and rewards for customers that open savings accounts and fixed deposits within the first month of operations.
