Kudumbigala Monanstry from Panama - Kudumbigala Road

Kudumbigala Monastery is located in middle of the jungle by the Panama – Kumana road. This place is special because of It’s pagoda , the only one cylindrical shape dagoba in Sri Lanka.

Life in a monastery is difficult, and monks get only basic facilities to maintain their life. But we feel that Kudumbigala Monastery is the most challenging place to have a monk life, because it is far away from the normal human habitat and Very less facilities for the monk who live there. Same time it’s a great place to meditate and achive higher states of you mind. Since this is in the northern part of Yala Santuary, there are many wild animals such as bears mingle close by.

According to the historical facts, this monastery was built during the time of King Devanampiyatissa. There are many rock caves in this site, which were used by monks.

This monastery is located close to several huge rock mountains and you will get one of unique experience there. Once you climb to the summit, you can see breath taking view of the surrounding including the Okanda beach in the horizon.

This is consider as the only dagoba in Sri Lanka, that was built according to the Dhammachakka Stupa at Saranath in India
